Job summary

Atrium Health is seeking a Patient Access representative to greet patients, verify demographics and insurance, complete registrations, and collect out-of-pocket liabilities. You will follow the Financial Clearance policy and refer patients to a Financial Counselor when needed.

The role requires knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid, pre-authorization rules, and strong communication to ensure accurate data and smooth patient flow in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; related healthcare experience preferred.
• Experience in patient access, scheduling, registration or financial clearance is valued.
• Knowledge of Medicare, HIPAA, EMTALA rules and updates.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients arriving for appointments and manages patient flow.
• Verifies and updates demographic and insurance information as needed.
• Completes walk-in registrations and collects financial liability.
• Applies Financial Clearance policy and refers to Financial Counselor when needed.
• Processes visit closures, schedules follow-ups, and provides required documents.
• Maintains knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid and third-party payer requirements.
• Communicates process-improvement opportunities to management.
• Meets productivity and accuracy targets (e.g., 98% accuracy).
• Maintains professional relations with patients, families, and staff.
