Job summary

WellSpan Hospitals in Carlisle, Newberry & Shrewsbury seeks a Patient Access Specialist/Front Office to greet patients, verify demographics, and secure insurance details at the point of admission.

Responsibilities include ensuring accurate registration, coordinating with billing, and maintaining a friendly, efficient front desk to support the revenue cycle and patient experience in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare and Medicaid payors required.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology.
• Excellent customer service.
• Fluency in English; bilingual in English/Spanish is required in some markets.

Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and all regulatory requirements in Admissions.
• Provide excellent customer service and build quality relationships with patients and families.
• Identify and triage patients upon arrival to ensure patient safety.
• Answer phones professionally and relay messages to medical staff.
• Obtain signatures on forms and consents; verify demographic information.
• Verify benefits and payors, and enter data into the patient accounting system.
• Obtain insurance authorizations as required.
• Assist with cash handling, collections, and recordkeeping.
• Coordinate patient transfers and respond to medical record requests.
