Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) required.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology; excellent customer service.
• MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) knowledge preferred; fluent in English.

Responsibilities

• Maintain EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA compliance and handle Medical Records.
• Provide excellent customer service at all times and build relationships.
• Identify and triage patients on arrival to ensure safety.
• Answer phone professionally and relay messages to staff.
• Obtain signatures on forms and consents; verify demographic information.
• Verify insurance benefits for all plans and correct payor.
• Obtain authorizations as required by plans.
• Assist with collections at the time of service in a customer-friendly way.
• Scan and file registration and clinical documents.
• Coordinate patient transfers between hospitals when needed.
• Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians and hospitals.
• Maintain cash drawer and log payments, transfers and admissions.
• Maintain visitor/vendor log.
