Job summary

The Bowery Residents' Committee, Inc. seeks a Community Technician to support individuals experiencing homelessness on a Sunday-Thursday overnight schedule (12am-8:30am).

This full-time role involves maintaining a safe residential environment, monitoring rounds, and responding to crises with calm, trauma-informed care. No prior shelter experience is required; candidates should show empathy, strong communication, and the ability to stay composed under pressure.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED is required.
• Strong communication skills and basic computer proficiency.
• Ability to stay calm under pressure while maintaining boundaries.
• Willingness to obtain required certifications for the role.
• Preferred experience with homelessness, mental health, or substance use populations.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, orderly residential environment through active monitoring and rounds.
• Engage residents using trauma-informed approaches and de-escalation techniques.
• Respond to conflicts, safety concerns, and crises professionally.
• Screen residents and visitors while upholding dignity and security.
• Provide emergency support (First Aid/CPR, Narcan) with training provided.
• Complete documentation (logbooks, incident reports, progress notes).
• Support fire safety procedures, inspections, and compliance.
• Assist with meals, escorts, inventory, and facility upkeep.
