Job summary

BRC - Bowery Residents' Committee, Inc. in Manhattan, NY seeks a Community Technician for the East Side with a Tue-Sat 3pm-11:30pm schedule. This full-time role supports individuals experiencing homelessness, providing a calm, trauma-informed presence during crises and transitions.

No prior shelter experience is required; you will receive hands-on training, certifications (CPR/First Aid, Narcan, Fire Safety), and opportunities for professional growth on a mission-driven team.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Strong communication skills and basic computer proficiency.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain professional boundaries.
• Willingness to obtain required certifications.
• Experience with homelessness, mental health, or substance use populations preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, orderly residential environment through active monitoring and rounds.
• Engage residents using trauma-informed and de-escalation techniques.
• Respond to conflicts, safety concerns, and crises professionally.
• Screen residents and visitors while maintaining dignity and security.
• Provide emergency support (First Aid/CPR, Narcan – training provided).
• Complete documentation (logbooks, incident reports, progress notes).
• Support fire safety procedures, inspections, and compliance.
• Assist with meals, escorts, inventory, and facility upkeep.
