Job summary

BRC - Bowery Residents' Committee, Inc. seeks a Community Technician to support individuals experiencing homelessness on a 37.5-hour weekly schedule. This full-time, frontline role provides crisis response, safety supervision, and documentation across a 24/7 program.

No prior shelter experience required; we value empathy, good judgment, and the ability to stay calm under pressure. Certifications will be provided or supported by BRC.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Strong communication skills and basic computer proficiency.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Willingness to obtain required certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe, orderly residential environment through active monitoring and rounds.
  • Engage residents using trauma-informed and de-escalation techniques.
  • Respond to conflicts, safety concerns, and crises professionally.
  • Screen residents and visitors while maintaining dignity and security.
  • Provide emergency support (First Aid/CPR, Narcan – training provided).
  • Complete documentation (logbooks, incident reports, progress notes).
  • Support fire safety procedures, inspections, and compliance.
  • Assist with meals, escorts, inventory, and facility upkeep.
