Job summary

Bowery Residents' Committee is seeking a Community Technician to provide front-line support in a 24/7 program. You’ll help individuals experiencing homelessness, respond to crises, and maintain a safe environment.

No prior shelter experience is required, but empathy, judgment, and the ability to stay calm under pressure are essential. The role includes overtime and rotating shifts to ensure coverage.

Qualifications

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to use basic computer applications.
• Demonstrated calmness and professional boundaries in stressful situations.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, orderly residential environment through active monitoring and rounds.
• Engage residents using trauma-informed and de-escalation techniques.
• Respond to conflicts, safety concerns, and crises professionally.
• Screen residents and visitors while maintaining dignity and security.
• Provide emergency support (First Aid/CPR, Narcan – training provided).
• Complete documentation (logbooks, incident reports, progress notes).
• Support fire safety procedures, inspections, and compliance.
• Assist with meals, escorts, inventory, and facility upkeep.
