Job summary

AEG is seeking an Optometric Technician to support Optometrists in delivering high-quality patient care. You will perform pre-exam evaluations, assist with specialty tests, and help manage the doctor’s schedule to ensure efficient, patient-centered experiences.

You will document findings in EHR, coordinate referrals, and participate in contact lens handling and daily operations. This role requires good clinical and clerical skills and dedication to accuracy.

Qualifications

• Experience evaluating patients for eye exams and dispensing eye exam medications.
• Familiarity with medical terms associated with eye treatment.
• Industry certification (CPO, CPOA, CPOT).

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary evaluations of patients prior to exam by the Optometrist (e.g., dilation, topicals, diagnostic medications, Optomap).
• Conduct verbal interview with patient prior to visit to identify medical issues for the Optometrist.
• Schedule referral appointments and complete paperwork as needed.
• Record and maintain patient records (HIPAA compliant).
• Respond to patient inquiries regarding medication, treatment, or referrals to Optometrist.
• Perform diagnostic testing with equipment (OCT, Visual Field, Pachymetry, Retinal Camera).
• Document findings in EHR and assist with medical documentation.
• Manage scheduling to maximize utilization and confirm appointments daily.
• Assist with contact lens insertion/removal and inventory.
• Handle end-of-day wrap-up and maintain clean workspace.
