Job summary

BioLife Plasma Services in Minnesota is hiring a Medical Support Specialist to support plasma center operations. You will determine donor eligibility, manage donor adverse events, review laboratory test results, and notify donors of unsuitable test results.

You will work under the Center Manager and Center Physician, following SOPs and regulatory guidance. This role supports vaccination programs for employees, incident management, and environmental health and safety initiatives, including

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent to including graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements
• Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: EMT-B, EMT-A, EMT-I, EMT-P, LPN/LVN, RN; CPR and AED certification
• Fulfill state requirements (in state of licensure) for basic IV therapy
• Satisfactorily complete the FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist
• Two years in a clinical or hospital setting

Responsibilities

• Determine donor eligibility; proper informed consent, AIDS education and confidential self-exclusion, medical history interview and acceptance requirements, physical examination, blood testing, and SPE review
• Evaluate donor reaction(s) at the facility and follow SOPs for medical emergencies including standing orders and donor transport to emergency care facilities
• Refer to Center Physician or Medical Affairs for unacceptable findings or guidance on medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility
• Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees as applicable
• Manage employee incidents and determine whether further evaluation is required by occupational health/ER; refer to EHS guidance
• Act as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations related to pandemics within the local community as indicated by EHS or Medical Affairs
