Job summary

The Behavioral Health Technician I at Akron Children's Hospital supports the care of children and adolescents aged 5-17 admitted to the inpatient behavioral health unit or emergency department, under the direction of a registered nurse.

This part-time role (24 hours weekly) includes night shifts, cross-functional teamwork, safety monitoring, patient education, and helping with activities of daily living within a therapeutic milieu.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Undergraduate enrollment for counseling, psychology, social work or related degree, or nursing preferred.
• Associate degree is preferred.
• Certification: BLS certification through the American Heart Association is required.
• Years of experience: 0 to 2 years’ experience.
• Years of experience supervising: None.

Responsibilities

• Collects data and contributes to patient assessment and care planning.
• Provide direct patient care under RN supervision and hospital policy.
• Facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic activities for patients.
• Document in the medical record according to policies.
• Encourage activities of daily living and maintain patient safety.
• Communicate with the treatment team about observations and care.
• Manage crisis situations effectively using positive approaches.
• Assist with unit environment maintenance and family instruction.
