Job summary

Akron Children's Hospital is seeking a Behavioral Health Technician I to support care for children and adolescents aged 5-17 in the inpatient behavioral health unit or emergency department. This part-time role covers 24 hours per week.

Under RN supervision, you will assist with data collection, direct patient care, and psychoeducational activities, while ensuring safety and therapeutic environments. Shift: 3rd, 7pm–7:30am, rotating weekends/holidays.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; undergrad study in counseling/ psychology/ social work or nursing preferred.
• BLS certification required by American Heart Association.
• 0–2 years of related healthcare experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collect data and participate in assessment, planning, and evaluation of patient care under RN supervision.
• Provide direct patient care per hospital policy with the care team.
• Facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic activities for groups and individuals.
• Document in the medical record following policy; support daily living activities.
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment and communicate with the care team.
• Assist with crisis management and safety rounds; monitor milieu for safety.
• Support families under RN direction; assist with restraints as required.
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and effective teamwork across disciplines.
• Participate in unit environment maintenance and report unsafe conditions.
• Perform other duties as required.
