Job summary

Akron Children's Behavioral Health Unit seeks a dedicated Behavioral Health Technician I to support care for children and adolescents (ages 5–17) in the inpatient unit or ED. This full-time 3rd shift role operates onsite, under direction of a registered nurse.

You will collect data, assist with plans of care, facilitate psychoeducational groups, document in the medical record, and help maintain a safe, therapeutic environment while collaborating with the treatment team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• BLS certification through the American Heart Association is required.
• 0–2 years of experience.
• Enrollment in an undergraduate degree in counseling, psychology, social work or related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in care for children 5–17 in inpatient behavioral health.
• Support RNs in direct patient care and clinical intervention.
• Facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic groups.
• Document in the medical record per hospital policy.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living.
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment and monitor safety.
• Communicate with the treatment team and family under RN direction.
• Manage crisis situations using positive approaches.
• Conduct safety rounds and monitor milieu; report unsafe conditions.
• Other duties as required.
