Job summary

Akron Children's Hospital is seeking a Behavioral Health Technician I for the inpatient pediatric unit. The role supports care for children and adolescents, ages 5-17, in a 36-hour weekly schedule across 7am–7:30pm shifts, on-site.

Under RN direction, you will assist with direct patient care, participate in group activities, and document in medical records while maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment and strong team communication.

Qualifications

• Must have completed high school or equivalent.
• Current enrollment in undergrad in counseling, psychology, social work or related field preferred.
• An associate degree is preferred.
• BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Collect data and contribute to assessment, planning and care for assigned patients.
• Provide direct care with RN supervision and support clinical interventions.
• Facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic activity groups for patients.
• Document in the medical record according to policy.
• Maintain a safe, supportive environment and assist with activities of daily living.
• Communicate with the treatment team and notify changes in patient status.
• Handle crisis situations using positive approaches.
