Job summary

Emerus seeks a Patient Access Specialist for the night shift at our Rigsby location near San Antonio, TX. The role focuses on patient demographics, billing and maximizing hospital reimbursement through accurate verification and collections.

Responsibilities include ensuring EMTALA/HIPAA compliance, providing excellent customer service, verifying demographics, obtaining signatures, and coordinating patient transfers.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology.
• Excellent customer service.
• MS Office knowledge (Word, Excel and Outlook).
• Position requires fluency in English; written and oral communication; bilingual English/Spanish beneficial in some markets.

Responsibilities

• Serve as liaison between patient, payers and care team to verify demographics and secure payments.
• Verify insurance benefits for all plans and enter correct payor and plan in system.
• Obtain insurance authorizations as required by plans.
• Maximize collections by pursuing at time of service in a service-oriented manner.
• Maintain accurate registration and medical records in system.
• Assist with transfers between hospitals when needed.
