Job summary

Emerus, a leader in small-format hospitals, seeks a Night Shift Patient Access Specialist in Texas to join our Admissions team. You will verify demographics, collect out-of-pocket payments, and secure authorizations to maximize hospital reimbursement.

You will provide courteous customer service, ensure HIPAA compliance, and coordinate with payers, patients, and a care team to keep revenue cycles accurate and efficient.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid payors required.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology.
• Excellent customer service.
• Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) preferred.
• Fluency in English; Spanish beneficial in some markets.

Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and all regulations applicable to Admissions and Medical Records handling.
• Provide excellent customer service by meeting customer needs and building relationships.
• Identify and triage patients upon arrival to ensure patient safety.
• Answer phones professionally and relay messages to appropriate medical staff.
• Obtain signatures on forms and consents.
• Enter complete demographic information to facilitate revenue cycle processing.
• Verify insurance benefits and correct payor and plan in the patient accounting system.
• Obtain insurance authorizations as required.
• Pursue collections at time of service to maximize cash collection.
• Scan and file registration and clinical documentation.
• Coordinate transfers between hospitals when needed.
