Job summary

Emerus is seeking a Patient Access Specialist for the night shift (7p–7a) in Rigsby. The role centers on patient registration, insurance verification and billing support to maximize hospital reimbursement.

Responsibilities include ensuring accurate demographics, verifying benefits, obtaining authorizations where required and handling patient communications. Prior ED experience is preferred; bilingual English/Spanish in relevant markets is required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors required.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology.
• Excellent customer service.
• MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) knowledge preferred.
• English fluency; bilingual English & Spanish required in El Paso Market.

Responsibilities

• Maintain EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and all applicable regulations in Admissions settings and handling of Medical Records.
• Provide excellent customer service and build quality relationships with customers.
• Identify and triage patients on arrival to protect patient safety.
• Answer telephone professionally and relay messages to medical staff.
• Obtain signatures on forms and consents.
• Enter complete demographic information to support revenue cycle processing.
• Verify insurance benefits and correct payor and plan in patient accounting system.
• Obtain necessary insurance authorizations.
• Pursue collections at time of service to maximize hospital reimbursement.
• Scan documents into the system and maintain medical records.
• Coordinate patient transfers to other hospitals when needed.
• Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians and hospitals.
• Maintain cash drawer and logs of patients, payments, transfers, and admissions.
