Job summary

Emerus is seeking a Patient Access Specialist for night shifts at a 16-bed small-format hospital to serve as a liaison between patients, payers and the revenue cycle team.

You will verify demographics, insurance benefits and authorizations, collect out-of-pocket amounts, and assist with transfers and medical records while maintaining EMTALA, DNV and HIPAA compliance. Strong customer service and English fluency are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors required.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology.
• Excellent customer service.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) preferred.
• English fluency required; Spanish may be needed in certain markets.

Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and all applicable regulations in Admissions and handling of Medical Records.
• Provide excellent customer service and build quality relationships with customers.
• Identify and verify patient identity and triage upon arrival
• Answer phones professionally and relay messages to staff
• Obtain signatures on required forms and consents
• Enter accurate demographic information to support revenue cycle
• Verify insurance benefits and confirm correct payor and plan in the system
• Obtain necessary insurance authorizations
• Support collections by collecting at the point of service
• Scan and store registration and clinical documents
• Assist in transferring patients between facilities when needed
• Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians, and hospitals
• Maintain cash drawer and logs of payments, transfers and admissions
• Maintain visitor/vendor log
