Job summary

Emerus seeks a Night Shift Patient Access Specialist to facilitate patient tracking, demographics, and billing while maximizing hospital reimbursement. You will verify insurance, collect out-of-pocket responsibility, and ensure accurate records for a small-format hospital setting.

Responsibilities include maintaining compliance, delivering excellent customer service, triaging arrivals, and coordinating transfers when needed. Strong English, with Spanish helpful in market-specific locations.

Qualifications

• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting.
• Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid plans.
• Fluency in English; bilingual English/Spanish required in the El Paso Market.

Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and all regulations in Admissions.
• Provide excellent customer service and build quality relationships.
• The Patient Access Specialist identifies and triages patients on arrival.
• Answer telephone professionally and relay messages to medical staff.
• Provide and obtain signatures on required forms and consents.
• Enter complete and accurate demographic information to facilitate revenue cycle.
• Verify insurance benefits and correct payor/plan in the system.
• Obtain insurance authorizations as required by plans.
• Pursue collections at the time of service to maximize reimbursement.
• Scan registration and clinical docs into the system.
• Coordinate transfers to other hospitals when necessary.
• Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians and hospitals.
• Maintain cash drawer and log payments, transfers and admissions.
• Maintain visitor/vendor log.
• Maintain a clean front desk and waiting area; assist staff as needed.
• Attend staff meetings and comply with company requirements.
• Assist medical staff as needed.
