Job summary

Emerus is seeking a Patient Access Specialist in Keller, TX to serve as a liaison among patients, payers, and the health care team. You will obtain demographic data, verify coverage, and collect out-of-pocket amounts to maximize hospital reimbursement.

You will ensure patient safety, identify and triage patients on arrival, and maintain accurate medical records while coordinating transfers when needed. Fluency in English (and Spanish in some markets) is required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors required.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology.
• Excellent customer service.
• Working knowledge of MS Office (MS Word, Excel and Outlook) strongly preferred.
• Position requires fluency in English; written and oral communication.
• Fluency in English & Spanish required in El Paso Market.

Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and all regulations applicable to Admissions settings and medical records.
• Provide excellent customer service and build quality relationships with patients and families.
• Facilitate patient tracking and billing by obtaining accurate demographic information.
• Verify insurance benefits and confirm payor and plan in the patient accounting system.
• Obtain insurance authorizations as required by plans.
• Maximize efficiency of the collections process at the time of service.
