Job summary

Emerus is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to act as a liaison among patients, payers, and hospital staff. You will verify demographics, secure out-of-pocket payments, and help maximize hospital reimbursement while delivering excellent service.

Responsibilities include insurance verification, data entry, and coordinating admissions transfers as needed. Fluency in English; Spanish beneficial in select markets, for a patient-focused team.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid plans required.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• MS Office knowledge (Word, Excel, Outlook) preferred.
• Fluency in English; Spanish ability required in some markets.

Responsibilities

• Serve as liaison between patient/family, payers, and hospital teams.
• Verify demographics, secure payment responsibility, and maximize reimbursement.
• Provide courteous customer service and accurate information.
• Identify patients, triage, and ensure proper registration.
• Handle insurance verifications and obtain authorizations when needed.
• Enter data into the patient accounting system accurately.
• Support keeping medical records and handling requests.
