Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors required.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology.
• Excellent customer service.
• MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) experience preferred.
• English fluency required; Spanish useful in El Paso market.

Responsibilities

• Maintain EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA compliance and hospital/government regulations in Admissions and Medical Records handling.
• Provide exceptional customer service and build quality relationships.
• Protect patient safety by proper identification and triage upon arrival.
• Answer phone professionally; record messages and relay to medical staff.
• Obtain signatures on required forms and consents.
• Verify and enter complete demographic information to facilitate revenue cycle processing.
• Verify insurance benefits and correct payor/plan in the patient accounting system.
• Obtain insurance authorizations as required by plans.
• Pursue collections at the time of service in a customer-focused manner.
• Scan and file registration and clinical documentation.
• Assist with patient transfers to other hospitals when needed.
• Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians and hospitals.
• Maintain cash drawer and log of patients, payments, transfers and admissions.
• Maintain front desk and common areas; receive deliveries; report equipment issues.
• Attend staff meetings and assist medical staff as needed.
