Job summary

Barrow Brain and Spine is seeking a Medical Assistant / Care Coordinator to support neurosurgical patients. This role blends clinical tasks with administrative duties, ensuring smooth daily clinic operations and excellent patient service for families navigating complex care paths.

You will greet patients, record vitals, prepare clinics, manage EMR entries, and coordinate referrals while maintaining HIPAA compliance. This position is on-site in Scottsdale, AZ with a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; Medical Assistant program preferred.
• 1–2 years in fast-paced medical office or specialty surgical setting.
• Proficiency with EMR systems; AthenaOne experience preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; strong bedside manner.

Responsibilities

• Greet, room patients, take vitals, record initial assessments.
• Prepare and run daily clinics with limited oversight.
• Coordinate referrals and support providers.
• Maintain clinic rooms; manage inventory and cleanliness.
• Open charts in EMR; ensure documents are uploaded pre-visit.
• Input orders, manage e-prescriptions, generate summaries.
• Manage recalls, testing, and follow up on non-compliances.
• Register new patients in EMR; verify demographics and insurance.
• Schedule consultations, imaging, labs, and therapy.
• Coordinate surgical scheduling, authorizations, billing docs, FMLA.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance and complete annual training.
