Job summary

The Wendell Gilley Museum is seeking a part-time Collections and Guest Services Assistant to support the Museum’s collections, exhibits, in-person programs, and store operations. The role involves cataloging with the Director, moving artwork safely, and assisting with installation, deinstallation, and storage.

You will help with Guest Services year-round, greet visitors, sell merchandise, process admissions and memberships, and help with events, sometimes in the evenings.

Qualifications

• Information technology skills in inventory and database management.
• Collection skills (minor interventions and preventive care knowledge).
• Interest in art and/or birds.
• Organized, flexible, able to keep different tasks in order.
• Capacity to be trained to manage library catalog.
• Customer service skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Work with the Museum’s Collections, with winter focus; lighter collections work June–October.
• Coordinate cataloging and preservation of items for research, permanent storage or public display.
• Movement and proper handling of art to protect the artwork.
• Assist Director with installation of work and preparation of exhibitions (2–4 per year).
• Maintain and clean collection storage and exhibition areas; inspect artwork prior to handling.
• Guest Services assistance June through October: greet visitors and sell merchandise in the Museum Store; process admissions and memberships.
• Support Museum events and special programs, possibly evening work.
