The Wendell Gilley Museum is seeking a part-time Collections and Guest Services Assistant to support the Museum’s collections, exhibits, in-person programs, and store operations. The role involves cataloging with the Director, moving artwork safely, and assisting with installation, deinstallation, and storage.
You will help with Guest Services year-round, greet visitors, sell merchandise, process admissions and memberships, and help with events, sometimes in the evenings.
This position is central to supporting the Wendell Gilley Museum, assisting with Museum collection work and helping to ensure that the Museum members and visitors have the best possible experience. Reportsto: Museum Director and Operations Manager.
Part-time(20-30 hours/week tailored to applicant and Museum needs), year-round, permanent desired. Hours range from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM, 2-3 days per week, including Saturday hours and occasional special event work. This is an in-person hourly position; anticipated starting hourly rate is $21-23 with the final offer depending on experience.
The Collections and Guest ServicesAssistant will support the Museum’s collections, exhibits, in-person public programs, and assist with Guest Services and the Museum Store. Responsibilities include working directly with the Museum Director to catalog and manage collections, assisting in the safe and secure movement of artworks and collections and participating in all aspects of installation/deinstallation and storage of works. This staff member will assist with Guest Services and program help as needed.
Work with the Museum’s Collections, which will be more focused in the winter months (November through May) with lighter Collections work when Guest Services work needed (June through October).
Work with Director to coordinate cataloging, and preservation of items for research, permanent storage or public display.
Movement and proper handling of art which demonstrates care to protect the artwork
Assist Director with installation of work and preparation of art exhibitions, which are changed 2-4 times/year
Maintai n and clean collection storage and exhibition areas, inspecting artwork prior to handling to ensure care
Guest Services assistance June through October:
Greet Museum guests and groups in a friendly manner and share the Museum’s unique story
Sell merchandise in the Museum Store
Process admission fees and memberships, and enroll guests for Museum programs and workshops
Support Museum events and special programs which may occasionally require evening work.
Information technology skills in inventory and database management
