Job summary

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center is seeking a part-time Laboratory Assistant to support a research laboratory with standard procedures, specimen handling, and animal care. The role works in an on-site lab environment and requires basic lab skills and accuracy.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Completes assigned laboratory procedures accurately and in accordance with approved protocols, SOPs, and supervisor instructions.
• Demonstrates proficiency in assigned techniques within established training timelines.
• Maintains high accuracy with minimal errors and reports deviations or concerns promptly.
• Completes experiments and tasks within deadlines and communicates results to relevant staff.

Position Description

Employees in this classification provide support in an assignedresearch laboratory. Duties include performing standard laboratoryexperiments and procedures on specimens from patients and/orexperimental animals, routine maintenance and clean-up of thelaboratory and caring for experimental animals. Work is performedunder usual laboratory conditions. Some hazards may be present dueto use of radioactive, carcinogenic or other potentially harmfulsubstances.

Major/Essential Functions

• Completes assigned laboratory procedures accurately and inaccordance with approved protocols, standard operating procedures(SOPs), and supervisor instructions.
• Demonstrates proficiency in assigned techniques withinestablished training timelines.
• Achieves and maintains a high level of accuracy with minimalprocedural errors requiring rework.
• Consistently completes assigned experiments and tasks withinestablished deadlines and promptly reports deviations, anomalies,or procedural concerns to appropriate personnel.

Required Qualifications

High school graduation. No previous work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's of Science in natural sciences or relatedfield.
• 1 year of laboratory research experience.
• Experience with mammalian cell culture and rodent diseasemodels.
