Position Description

Employees in this classification provide support in an assignedresearch laboratory conducting specified phases of researchprojects. Performs work independently and is responsible fordeveloping new procedures and techniques to be utilized in thelaboratory and in experiments, and new applications for standardprocedures and techniques. Work is performed under usual laboratoryconditions. Some hazards may be present due to use of radioactive,carcinogenic or other potentially harmful substances.Responsibilities also include ensuring overall cleanliness of thelaboratory and laboratory equipment, and ordering and maintainingan adequate stock of necessary supplies. May instruct or directwork of subordinate laboratory personnel.

Major/Essential Functions

Molecular biology, biochemistry, electrophysiology, and behavioralstudies.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in one of the sciences, or equivalent combination(four (4) years) of job-related experience and college education.Experience may be substituted for college education on a year foryear basis.

Preferred Qualifications

• Good fundamental understanding and experimental skills onmolecular biology, protein biochemistry, and/or neuroscience.
• Knowledge of mouse colony husbandry, behavioral studies,electrophysiology and protein biochemistry experimentsindependently.
