Job summary

Allegheny Health Network seeks a skilled Medical Records Abstractor to review clinical data, interpret diagnoses, and assign ICD-10 CM/CPT codes to support accurate billing and reporting. You will abstract data elements, monitor unbilled coding reports, and stay current with ICD-10-CM/CPT updates, collaborating with care teams to ensure high-quality data and compliant documentation.

Strong data entry skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with HIPAA guidelines are required.

Qualifications

• Must have completed coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
• Requires 1 year hospital/physician coding experience.
• 1 year coding at mid-level facilities or clinics.
• 1 year coding major surgeries, observations and/or E/Ms.
• HIPAA compliance and data security awareness.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical information to determine ICD-10 CM/CPT codes.
• Abstracts data elements and enters coded information into designated systems.
• Manages unbilled coding reports to support cash flow and billing.
• Keeps current with ICD-10 CM/CPT guidelines through training and resources.
