Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Medical Records Coder to review clinical information and assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes. You will abstract data, ensure timely entry into the system, and monitor unbilled coding reports to support cash flow.

The role requires knowledge of coding guidelines and collaboration with the health care team. Candidate should have hospital/physician coding experience, data entry skills, and relevant certifications.

Qualifications

• High School/GED
• Successful completion of coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology
• 1 year of Hospital and/or Physician Coding
• 1 year coding at mid-level facilities or clinics
• 1 year coding major surgeries, observations and/or E/Ms
• Medical Terminology
• Strong data entry skills
• An understanding of computer applications
• Ability to work with members of the health care team
• RHIT
• RHIA
• CCS-P
• CPC
• COC
• CPC-A Certified Professional Coder - Apprentice
• Associate's Degree in Health Information Management or related field

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical information, physician treatment plans, course, and outcome to determine ICD-10 CM/CPT codes.
• Abstracts data elements to satisfy statistical requests and enters coded information into the designated system.
• Ensures efficient management of medical information and cash flow related to unbilled coding reports.
• Keeps informed of ICD-10 CM/CPT guideline updates by attending training and applying changes.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.
