Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a skilled medical records coder to perform thorough review, abstract data, and assign ICD-10-CM/CPT codes. This role supports statistical reporting and cash flow related to unbilled accounts.

A strong background in health information management and coding certifications is preferred, with appropriate data entry and teamwork abilities. Familiarity with ICD guidelines is essential.

Qualifications

• High School/GED is required.
• Successful completion of coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
• 1 year of Hospital and/or Physician Coding experience.
• 1 year coding at mid-level facilities or clinics.
• 1 year coding major surgeries, observations and/or E/Ms.
• Medical Terminology
• Strong data entry skills
• An understanding of computer applications
• Ability to work with members of the health care team
• RHIT, RHIA, CCS-P, CPC, COC, CPC-A Apprentice certifications

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical information, physician treatment plans, course, and outcome to determine appropriate ICD-10 CM/CPT codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Abstracts data elements to satisfy statistical requests and enters all coded/abstracted information into designated system.
• Ensures efficient management of medical information and cash flow as it pertains to the unbilled coding report.
• Keeps informed of changes in ICD-10 CM/CPT guidelines by attending training and applying updates in daily work.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.
