Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a skilled Medical Coder to review and code medical records using ICD-10-CM/CPT, abstract data for statistics, and support timely billing. This on-site role emphasizes accuracy and adherence to privacy standards.

The candidate must have anatomy/physiology/medical terminology training, data entry proficiency, and the ability to collaborate with care teams across departments for compliant coding and reporting.

Qualifications

• High School/GED is required.
• Successful completion of coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
• 1 year of Hospital and/or Physician Coding.
• 1 year coding at mid-level facilities or clinics.
• 1 year coding major surgeries, observations and/or E/Ms.
• Medical Terminology is required.
• Strong data entry skills.
• An understanding of computer applications.
• Ability to work with members of the health care team.
• RHIT, RHIA, CCS-P, CPC, COC, or CPC-A certifications are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical information to assign ICD-10-CM/CPT codes.
• Abstracts data elements for statistical requests and enters data into the system.
• Manages unbilled coding reports to support cash flow.
• Keeps informed of ICD-10-CM/CPT guideline updates and applies changes.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
