Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a medical record coder to perform thorough record review, assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes, and support accurate billing.

You will abstract data for statistics, monitor unbilled reports, and stay current with coding updates while collaborating with care teams to ensure compliant, timely documentation.

This role requires attention to detail, strong data entry, and knowledge of HIPAA and privacy guidelines, with a focus on quality and efficiency.

Qualifications

• High School/GED.
• Completion of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology coding courses.
• 1 year hospital/physician coding.
• 1 year coding at mid-level facilities or clinics.
• 1 year coding major surgeries, observations and/or E/Ms.
• Medical Terminology.
• Strong data entry skills.
• An understanding of computer applications.
• Ability to work with members of the health care team.

• CCS-P
• CPC
• COC
• CPC-A
• CPC-A Certified Professional Coder - Apprentice
• Associate's Degree in Health Information Management (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical information to determine ICD-10 CM/CPT codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Abstracts data elements to satisfy statistical requests and enters coded information.
• Manages unbilled coding reports to support cash flow.
• Keeps updated on ICD-10 CM/CPT changes and guidelines and applies updates.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
