Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Medical Records Coding Specialist to review medical records, abstract data, and assign ICD-10-CM/ CPT codes for accurate billing. You will help decrease accounts receivable days and ensure compliance with coding guidelines.

The role requires minimum 1 year of hospital/physician coding, knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology, and the ability to work collaboratively with healthcare teams to improve documentation and revenue cycle processes.

Qualifications

• High School/GED required.
• Completion of coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
• 1 year of Hospital and/or Physician Coding.
• 1 year coding at mid-level facilities or clinics.
• 1 year coding major surgeries, observations and/or E/Ms.
• Strong data entry skills and familiarity with computer applications.
• Ability to work with health care team and adhere to HIPAA policies.
• Certifications such as RHIT/RHIA/CCS-P/CPC/COC/CPC-A are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review and interpret medical information to assign ICD-10 CM/CPT codes (65%).
• Abstract data elements and enter coded information into designated system (15%).
• Manage unbilled coding reports to support cash flow (10%).
• Stay updated on ICD-10-CM/CPT guidelines and training (5%).
• Perform other duties as assigned (5%).
