Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Medical Records Coder to review records, determine ICD-10-CM and CPT codes, and abstract data elements for statistical reporting. You will ensure accurate coding to support hospital operations and cash flow.

The role requires at least a high school diploma and coding coursework, with 1 year of hospital/physician coding experience and RHIT/RHIA/CCS-P/CPC/COC/CPC-A credentials preferred. Strong data entry and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• High School/GED required.
• Successful completion of coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
• 1 year of Hospital and/or Physician Coding.
• 1 year coding at mid-level facilities or clinics.
• 1 year coding major surgeries, observations and/or E/Ms.
• Medical Terminology.
• Strong data entry skills.
• An understanding of computer applications.
• Ability to work with members of the health care team.
• RHIT/RHIA/CCS-P/CPC/COC/CPC-A certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical information to assign ICD-10 CM/CPT codes.
• Abstracts data elements for statistical requests and enters data into the system.
• Manages unbilled coding reports to support cash flow.
• Keeps up with ICD-10/CM and CPT guideline changes and training.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
