Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a medical coder to review medical records and assign accurate ICD-10-CM and CPT codes. You will abstract data elements for statistics and enter information into the hospital's coding system.

The role requires high school or GED, 1 year of hospital/physician coding, and familiarity with ICD-10-CM/CPT guidelines. Training will cover coding updates and facility-specific processes.

Qualifications

• High School/GED required.
• Successful completion of coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
• 1 year of Hospital and/or Physician Coding.
• 1 year coding at mid-level facilities or clinics.
• 1 year coding major surgeries, observations and/or E/Ms.
• Knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Review and interpret medical information to determine ICD-10-CM/CPT codes.
• Abstract data elements for statistical requests and enter data into designated system.
• Manage unbilled coding reports to aid cash flow.
• Stay informed of coding guideline updates and apply changes daily.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
