Job summary

Allegheny Health Network seeks a skilled medical coder to review medical information, determine ICD-10 CM/CPT codes, and abstract data for statistical reporting.

The role requires 1 year of hospital/physician coding experience, familiarity with ICD-10/CPT, and strong data entry skills. Training and career progression opportunities are provided in a hospital-wide setting, ensuring accurate coding and timely cash flow.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications include high school diploma or GED and coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
• 1 year of hospital and/or physician coding and 1 year coding at mid-level facilities or clinics.
• 1 year coding major surgeries/observations/E/Ms and strong data entry skills.
• Advanced credentials such as RHIT, RHIA, CCS-P, CPC, COC or CPC-A are preferred.
• Understanding of ICD-10 CM and CPT guidelines with ongoing training.

Responsibilities

• Review and interpret medical information to assign ICD-10 CM/CPT codes.
• Abstract data elements to satisfy statistical requests and enter into systems.
• Manage unbilled coding reports to support cash flow.
• Stay updated on ICD-10-CM/CPT changes and apply them daily.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
