Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Medical Records Coder to review charts, determine ICD-10-CM/CPT codes, and abstract data for statistical requests. You will enter coded information into the hospital system and support cash-flow related to unbilled coding.

The role requires 1 year of hospital/physician coding experience, familiarity with ICD-10-CM/CPT, and strong data-entry skills. Certification options (RHIT/RHIA/CCS-P/CPC/COC/CPC-A) are highly valued.

Qualifications

• High School/GED is required.
• Completion of coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
• 1 year hospital/physician coding experience.
• 1 year coding at mid-level facilities or clinics.
• 1 year coding major surgeries, observations or E/Ms.
• Medical terminology knowledge.
• Strong data entry skills.
• Understanding of computer applications.
• Ability to work with health care team.
• Certified coding credentials (RHIT, RHIA, CCS-P, CPC, COC, CPC-A) or current enrollment.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical information to determine ICD-10-CM/CPT codes.
• Abstracts data elements and enters coded information into systems.
• Manages medical information and cash flow related to unbilled coding.
• Keeps updated with ICD-10-CM/CPT changes and training.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
