Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Medical Records Coder to review and code medical information for accurate ICD-10-CM and CPT assignments. You will abstract data elements and ensure timely entry into the designated system, supporting hospital reporting and financial workflows.

The role requires 1 year of hospital/physician coding experience, familiarity with terminology, and ongoing updates to coding guidelines.

Qualifications

• High School/GED required; coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology completed.
• Minimum 1 year hospital/physician coding experience.
• Minimum 1 year coding at mid-level facilities or clinics.
• Minimum 1 year coding major surgeries, observations and/or E/Ms.

Responsibilities

• Review and interpret medical information to determine ICD-10-CM/CPT codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Abstract data elements and enter coded data into the designated system.
• Ensure efficient management of medical information and cash flow related to unbilled coding reports.
• Stay updated on ICD-10-CM/CPT guidelines through training, clinics and resources.
• Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Education

High School/GED

Coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology

RHIT / RHIA / CCS-P / CPC / COC / CPC-A certifications

1 year hospital/physician coding
