Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Surgical Technologist to support the operating room team in Worcester, MA. The technologist will scrub for physicians across assigned services, prepare sterile setups, and pass instruments during procedures, ensuring patient safety and adherence to hospital policies.

Qualified candidates must complete an accredited surgical technology program and hold current AST-credentialed certification along with BLS certification.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of an accredited school of surgical technology and required certification as of the date of hire.
• Maintain current BLS certification every two years and AST membership.
• All Surgical Technologist Certified employees will have obtained a surgical technologist credential by a nationally recognized certifying body.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates independent functioning as scrub role in all cases in assigned specialty.
• Prepares OR by checking case cart, preference cards and required instruments.
• Anticipates needs for special equipment and supplies before procedures and sets up trays as per surgeon preference.
• Assists operative team and maintains vigilance for emergency situations during cases.
• Passes and tracks instruments, sutures and supplies; ensures proper identification of specimens and sterile field.
