LTL Dock Operations Lead

Job summary

Estes Express Lines, Joliet, IL, seeks an experienced Operations Supervisor to lead dock staff and optimize daily LTL operations. You will drive performance, coaching, and scheduling while ensuring safety, policy adherence, and timely paperwork processing.

The role requires prior dock/dispatch management in LTL, strong leadership, and the ability to work 50 hours per week, including nights or weekends as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Thorough understanding of the LTL trucking industry.
• Prior management, dispatch and dock experience in LTL trucking.
• Knowledge of the local metropolitan area.
• Strong leadership, coaching, training and termination abilities.
• Team building and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills.
• Strong planning and organization skills.
• Proficient in AS/400 & MS Office.
• Willing to work 50 hours per week.
• Able to work any shift including nights and/or weekends.
• Able to lift approximately 20 lbs.
• Must comply with company policies, rules, procedures and Code of Conduct.
• Able to interact well with others.
• Work independently, or in a team setting.
• Capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment.
• Ability to read, interpret and comply with safety rules and procedures.
• Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background checks.
• Authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Report to Operations Manager and lead dock employees.
• Set targets, monitor performance, provide coaching and development.
• Ensure efficient, safe LTL operation including dock planning and scheduling.
• Enforce compliance with company policies, safety rules and regulations.
• Participate in hiring and termination processes.
• Administer portions of the Service Center Business plan as set forth by the Manager.
• Meet KPI targets and use company enhancement tools.
• Coordinate communication with customers by phone, fax or email.
• Oversee dock paperwork to ensure timely handling by staff.
