Job summary

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to residents.
• Supervise day-to-day nursing activities by nursing assistants.
• Plan and coordinate shift services, programs and activities.
• Prepare and administer physician-ordered medications and treatments.
• Maintain resident charts and medical records.
• Admit, transfer, and discharge residents.
• Monitor residents and notify physicians/kin of changes.
• Perform nursing procedures (catheterization, tube feeding, suction, dressing changes, etc.).
• Review and update resident care plans; participate in MDS/RAP planning.
• Participate in quality assurance, inspections, infection control, safety, and emergency preparedness programs.
• Train, orient, supervise, and evaluate nursing personnel.
• Maintain nursing supplies, equipment, medications, and narcotics records.
• Communicate with residents, families, physicians, staff, and external agencies.
• Participate in continuing education and in-service training.

Job description

• Provide direct nursing care to residents


• Supervise day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants


• Plan and coordinate shift services, programs, and activities


• Prepare and administer physician-ordered medications and treatments


• Maintain resident charts, medical records, reports, and documentation


• Admit, transfer, and discharge residents


• Monitor residents’ conditions and notify physicians and next-of-kin of changes


• Perform nursing services including catheterization, tube feedings, suction, dressing changes, specimen collection, vital signs, and range-of-motion exercises


• Review and maintain resident care plans and participate in MDS/RAP planning


• Participate in quality assurance, facility inspections, infection control, safety, and emergency preparedness programs


• Train, orient, supervise, and evaluate nursing personnel


• Maintain nursing supplies, equipment, medication stocks, and narcotic records


• Communicate with residents, families, physicians, staff, government agencies, and other departments


• Participate in continuing education and in-service training

Requirements

• Nursing degree from an accredited college or university, or graduation from an approved LPN/LVN program


• Active, unencumbered South Carolina LPN/LVN license


• Current CPR certification


• Must maintain all required continuing education/licensing


• Must remain in good standing with the State Board of Nursing at all times


• Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English


• Knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, and laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to nursing care facilities


• Leadership and supervisory ability


• Ability to move intermittently throughout the workday


• Ability to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet


• Must meet the facility’s general health requirements, including a medical and physical examination


• Knowledge and experience with PCC preferred
