- Plan and provide professional nursing care according to medical and nursing plans of care, policies, and procedures
- Provide nursing services to patients and families within the North Carolina RN scope of practice
- Plan, provide, supervise, and document nursing care using the nursing process
- Use nursing judgment to individualize care plans based on patient assessment and response to care
- Delegate tasks and supervise licensed and unlicensed care providers
- Assist nursing personnel and serve as team leader or charge nurse when assigned
- Monitor and initiate corrective action to maintain the care environment, equipment, and material resources
- Maintain required competencies and pursue professional development
- Act as preceptor and support development of staff and formal learners
- Identify clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and participate in improvement activities
- Perform other related duties incidental to the role
- Provide comprehensive primary care support for children, teens, and adults, including preventive care, chronic illness management, screenings, immunizations, and routine treatments
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited BSN program, or an accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher), Associate's Degree in Nursing, or Nursing Diploma program
- Registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) must enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of starting and complete it within five years
- Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience
- Current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina
- BLS certification required
- Knowledge of registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, and unlicensed staff scope
- Knowledge and appropriate application of the nursing process
- Knowledge of professional theory, practice, and procedure
- Ability to assess nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients and their families
- Ability to independently seek resources and work collaboratively
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership, and others
- Ability to teach patients and families according to the nursing plan of care
- Ability to process and prioritize treatment and follow-up information using sensory and cognitive functions
- Fine motor skills
- Competency in BLS and/or other specialized life support requirements designated by the work area
- Ability to record activities and document assessments, plans of care, interventions, evaluations, and patient status re-evaluations
- Ability to use computers and learn new software programs
- Ability to document and communicate pertinent information using computer or paper documentation tools
- Ability to navigate the entity to provide clinical care
- Ability to withstand prolonged standing and walking
- Ability to remain focused and organized
- Working knowledge of procedures and techniques for routine and special patient treatments
- Working knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions
- Working knowledge and completion of Joint Commission and other regulatory requirements
- Successful completion of pre-employment Physical Capacity Testing
