Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Substation Physical Project Designer to join our team in a hybrid work model, with in-office duties 3 days per week. You will work with engineers and other designers on high and extra high voltage substation design, detailing drawings, BOMs, grounding, and conduit layouts.

The role requires extensive field walkdowns, adherence to codes, mentoring of staff, and collaboration across disciplines to ensure integrated, compliant designs within project budgets.

Qualifications

• An Associate Degree in Drafting or equivalent technical experience.
• 15 or more years of substation physical design experience.
• Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Ability to visualize Equipment Details, Phase to Ground and Phase to Phase Clearances.
• Ability to multi-task from project to project.
• Ability to visualize parts in 3D without the aid of a computer.

Responsibilities

• Perform technical review of project team's comments on vendor design deliverables and coordinate incorporation.
• Lead field walkdowns and data collection at client facilities; discuss issues with clients and contractors.
• Provide guidance on design standards and apply client standards to the project.
• Mentor designers, drafters, and project stakeholders in design tools.
• Review and supervise production of design deliverables.
• Develop cost-effective design approaches within budget and schedule.
