Job summary

Qualus Corporation seeks a Principal Substation Engineer to lead the physical design of high‑voltage substations, mentor junior staff, and drive technical excellence from concept to construction.

You will design grounding, protection, and layouts per codes, coordinate with clients and vendors, and ensure QA/QC standards across complex utility projects. Hybrid/remote options in the US are supported.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering.
• 15+ years of experience in Substation physical design engineering.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent document management and organization skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and interact professionally with clients and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design power utility substations utilizing applicable codes and client standards.
• Design ground grids based on applicable codes utilizing industry software.
• Design lightning protection and grounding plans.
• Complete calculations such as AC and DC load, bus spans, and ampacity.
• Create equipment and material specifications for procurement and cost estimates.
• Prepare conceptual designs and layouts for facility planning studies.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, vendors, and contractors.
• Lead client meetings and site visits to collect data and present solutions.
• Ensure QA/QC compliance of engineering design packages.
• Mentor junior engineers and review calculations and drawings.
