Job summary

Qualus Corporation is seeking a Lead Substation Physical Design Engineer to lead the design of high-voltage substations and mentor junior engineers. The role supports projects from concept through construction with emphasis on safety, quality, and reliability.

Remote work within the United States is possible, with preferred candidates located near hybrid Qualus offices in Farmington, UT or other listed locations. Strong technical expertise and client collaboration are essential for success.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering.
• 10+ years of experience in substation physical design engineering.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent document management and organization skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and interact professionally with clients and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design power utility substations utilizing applicable codes and client standards (if available).
• Prepare general arrangement, equipment/electrical layout, elevation views, trenching, grounding, conduit drawings, BOM, and AC/DC power systems.
• Design ground grids per codes using industry software.
• Develop lightning protection and grounding plans.
• Perform calculations such as AC/DC load, bus spans, and ampacity.
• Create equipment and material specifications and cost estimates.
• Develop conceptual designs and facility layouts.
• Prepare supporting documentation for procurement, construction, and operations/maintenance.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, vendors, and contractors to ensure project success.
• Lead client meetings and site visits to collect data and present solutions.
• Ensure QA/QC of engineering design packages and mentor junior engineers.
