Job summary

Electric Power Systems (EPS) is seeking a Sr. Relay Technician to lead protection and control testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting for substation and industrial systems.

You will manage complex projects, guide field teams, ensure safe operations, and interact with utilities and clients to meet expectations. The role emphasizes technical leadership, project execution, and hands-on relay maintenance with opportunities for professional development and certifications in a safety-focused

Qualifications

  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen (safety sensitive)
  • Complete a satisfactory criminal background check
  • Willing to overtime and travel out of town
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record
  • Hands-on experience installing, maintaining, testing & repairing protective relays in substations
  • Ability to troubleshoot distribution and transmission controls circuits
  • Knowledge of relay test software (e.g., protective relays)

Responsibilities

  • Lead safety briefings and enforce safety culture on job sites
  • Analyze protection schemes for power systems including transmission, distribution, and industrial
  • Install, commission, test and functional test substation control circuits
  • Perform end-to-end and functional testing with relay test equipment
  • Read and validate protection schematics and system configurations
  • Ensure calibration and performance of electromechanical and microprocessor relays
  • Troubleshoot protection and control systems across multiple applications
  • Lead root cause analysis of relay trips and disturbances
  • Develop project execution and energization plans
  • Coordinate resources and field activities for complex projects
  • Prepare and finalize test results and commissioning reports
  • Ensure as-built drawings and relay settings validation are completed
  • Mentor Relay Technician I/II and junior engineers
  • Interface with customers and stakeholders to communicate status
