Job summary

Humana Inc. seeks a seasoned Lead Software Engineer to architect and deliver foundational services that enable real-time recommendations within the NBA Decision Intelligence Platform.

You will own the State Machine and Transactional Outbox, ensuring robustness, traceability, and scalability in a regulated healthcare environment. You will lead a small team of engineers, write production code in Java, Python, Node.js, and TypeScript, and drive automated testing, observability, and production

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
• 8+ years of full stack software engineering experience with leadership in platform reliability/production operations.
• Strong experience with Java, Python, Node.js, or TypeScript in production systems.
• Hands-on experience designing automated testing frameworks (unit/integration/end-to-end).
• Strong observability practices: logging, metrics, tracing, monitoring and alerting.
• Experience designing reliability patterns for distributed systems (fault tolerance, retries, recovery).
• Proven ability to lead a small engineering pod and manage contractor resources.
• Experience operating cloud-native apps on Kubernetes and container platforms.
• Clear communicator able to articulate risks and tradeoffs to executives.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Copilot).

Responsibilities

• Own delivery for the NBA platform scale and reliability pod, incl. planning, execution, quality, and operational readiness.
• Own uptime, performance, resilience, and observability across platform services.
• Build and maintain automated testing frameworks (unit/integration/end-to-end/Load).
• Contribute production code alongside the team across Java, Python, Node.js, TypeScript.
• Own logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, and monitoring strategy for the platform.
• Define patterns for exception handling, fault tolerance, recovery, and diagnostics.
• Evaluate platform behavior under load and lead performance/throughput improvements.
• Define release readiness criteria and production handoff standards.
• Lead and mentor engineers and contractors; conduct code reviews and enforce quality gates.
• Collaborate across decisioning, orchestration, activation, platform, and data teams.
