Job summary

Humana Inc. is seeking a seasoned Lead Software Engineer to architect and deliver foundational services for real-time recommendations.

You will own the design of the State Machine and Transactional Outbox, ensuring exactly-once emission and high performance under concurrency. You will lead a small engineering pod, write production code, and partner with platform, data, and product teams to drive reliability, observability, and production readiness across Java, Python, Node.js, and TypeScript

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
8+ years of full stack software engineering with leadership experience in reliability/production operations.
Experience with Java, Python, Node.js, or TypeScript in production systems.
Hands-on in automated testing frameworks (unit/integration/end-to-end).
Strong observability practices: logs, metrics, tracing, monitoring, alerts.
Designing reliability patterns: fault tolerance, retries, resilience, recovery.
Ability to lead a small engineering pod and manage contractors.
Experience with Kubernetes and cloud-native apps.

Responsibilities

Own delivery for platform scale and reliability across the NBA platform.
Ensure uptime, performance, resilience, and operational excellence of platform services.
Develop automated testing frameworks and quality gates for releases.
Contribute production code and build reliability tooling and observability.
Lead code reviews and uphold engineering standards across teams.
Collaborate with decisioning, orchestration, and data teams to address reliability risks.
Define and enforce release readiness criteria and operational quality gates.
Mentor engineers and contractors to sustain platform health and growth.
