Job summary

Humana Inc. is seeking a seasoned Lead Software Engineer to architect and deliver foundational services enabling real-time recommendations. You will own the State Machine and Transactional Outbox, ensuring robustness, traceability, and scalability under high concurrency.

The role blends hands-on coding with technical leadership across Java, Python, Node.js, and TypeScript. You will mentor engineers, drive automated testing, observability, and production readiness for an enterprise-scale platform.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
• 8+ years of full stack software engineering experience with leadership.
• Experience with Java, Python, Node.js, or TypeScript.
• Hands-on experience designing automated testing frameworks.
• Strong observability practices including logging, metrics, tracing, monitoring, alerts.
• Experience designing reliability patterns for distributed systems.
• Ability to lead a small engineering pod and manage contractors.
• Experience operating cloud-native apps on Kubernetes.
• Clear communicator to technical leaders and executives.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity.

Responsibilities

• Own delivery for platform scale and reliability pod, including planning and quality.
• Own uptime, performance, resilience, and operational excellence across services.
• Build and maintain automated testing frameworks (unit/integration/e2e/load).
• Contribute production code and reliability tooling alongside the team.
• Define logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, and monitoring strategy.
• Define patterns for exception handling, fault tolerance, recovery, diagnostics.
• Lead scalability initiatives as usage grows.
• Define release readiness criteria and operational gates.
• Mentor engineers and contract resources across pods.
• Collaborate with decisioning, orchestration, activation, platform, and data teams.
