Humana Inc. seeks a seasoned Lead Software Engineer to architect and deliver scalable real‑time decisioning services for the NBA platform, focusing on reliability, observability, and production readiness.

Qualifications

8+ years of full stack software engineering experience.
1–2 years leading platform reliability or production operations initiatives.
Experience building production software across Java, Python, Node.js, or TypeScript.
Hands-on experience designing automated testing frameworks (unit, integration, E2E, load, quality automation).
Strong understanding of observability practices (logging, metrics, tracing, monitoring, alerting).
Experience designing reliability patterns for distributed systems (fault tolerance, retries, resilience).
Demonstrated ability to lead a small engineering pod and manage contractors.
Experience operating cloud-native applications on Kubernetes and container platforms.
Clear communicator who can articulate risks and tradeoffs to technical leaders.
Experience using AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Copilot) to improve productivity.

Responsibilities

Pod delivery — Own delivery for platform scale and reliability across the NBA platform.
Platform reliability — Own uptime, performance, resilience, and operational excellence.
Quality engineering — Build and maintain automated testing frameworks and quality standards.
Hands-on development — Contribute production code, reliability tooling, and observability capabilities.
Observability and monitoring — Own logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, and monitoring strategy.
Error and failure management — Define patterns for exception handling, fault tolerance, and diagnostics.
Scalability engineering — Lead performance, throughput, and cost-efficiency improvements.
Production readiness — Enforce release readiness criteria and quality gates.
Team leadership — Mentor engineers and contractors; conduct code reviews.
Cross‑team coordination — Collaborate with decisioning, orchestration, activation, platform, and data teams.
