Job summary

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. seeks a Lead Physical Engineer to direct substation design for large renewable projects.

You will mentor a three-to-five-person team, coordinate with multiple disciplines, and ensure layouts, grounding, and equipment meet codes and client requirements. The role emphasizes leadership, regulatory compliance, and collaboration with project engineers, with a focus on high fault current analysis and 3D design tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited program.
• PE license is required or actively pursued.
• 7–9 years of substation design/engineering experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, NEC, NESC, NERC.

Responsibilities

• Design leadership for 35kV to 500kV substation layouts and major equipment.
• Coordinate with P&C and Civil/Structural teams for integrated design.
• Lead a sub-team of 3–5 engineers and/or designers.
• Prepare calculations, drawings, BOMs and construction documents.
• Oversee design quality, regulatory compliance, and QA processes.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide performance feedback.
• Interact with clients and manage project meetings and updates.
